March Magic at Killurney:
What a wonderfully busy and creative few weeks we've had here at school! Our classrooms have been buzzing with excitement, learning, and laughter as we celebrated special events and launched new projects across all classes. Here’s a round-up of all the amazing things that have taken place!

World Book Week – A Celebration of Reading and Imagination
World Book Week was a true highlight this term! The whole school took part in a range of fun and literacy-rich activities designed to inspire a love of reading.
  • Book Swap: Students were invited to bring in gently used books from home and trade them with their classmates. It was heart-warming to see children choosing their “new” reads and talking animatedly about their favourite characters and stories.
  • Literary Quiz: Teams from each room faced off in a fun and challenging book quiz, testing their knowledge of authors, classic tales, and even book-themed riddles.
  • Where’s Wally Scavenger Hunt: Our classrooms and school playground transformed into a whimsical world of search and discovery, as students hunted high and low for hidden Wallys throughout the school!
  • Illustration Station: Budding artists had the chance to illustrate characters from their favourite books or design new book covers.
  • Dress-Up Day: The grand finale of the week saw students and staff arriving in an incredible array of costumes—from wizards and witches to talking animals and superheroes. The creativity and effort put into each outfit was fantastic!

Mural & Media: Senior Room Gets Creative for Irish Aid
Our Senior Room students took on a meaningful project for the Irish Aid Our World Competition, combining artistic talent with global awareness. A massive thank you to Mrs. Meagher who put in so much work and effort to help design, direct and assist the students with their outdoor mural. We are so lucky to have her guidance and support.
  • Mural Creation: With teamwork and a strong message in mind, students designed and painted a stunning mural focused on the theme of global sustainability. Their work reflects the importance of protecting our planet and helping communities around the world.
  • Green Screen Video Production: As part of this initiative, the class also created a video using green screen technology. They acted, narrated, and edited scenes that brought their message to life—highlighting sustainable development goals in a format that was both educational and visually exciting.

Seachtain na Gaeilge – Let’s Celebrate Irish Culture!
In honour of Seachtain na Gaeilge, students across the school embraced the Irish language and traditions with enthusiasm.
  • Irish Dancing: A special Irish dancing session got everyone moving to traditional tunes! The joy on students’ faces as they skipped and stepped to the rhythm was a beautiful reminder of the richness of our heritage.
  • Hokai Pokai as Gaeilge: The Junior Room also had great fun learning and performing “Hokai Pokai” in Irish—there were giggles all around as they danced along and practised their new vocabulary.
  • Shamrock Art: To get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit, both the Junior and Senior Rooms created beautiful shamrock-themed art. The green displays brought a lovely festive touch to the school!

First Penance for First & Second Class
A special milestone was reached by our younger students as First and Second Class made their First Penance in the church in Kilsheelan. The ceremony was a reflective and important step in their faith journey, and we’re very proud of how respectfully and thoughtfully each child participated.

Lego Spike Project Launch
The Senior Room also dove into the world of STEM as they began work with our new Lego Spike Kits! These kits allow students to explore coding, engineering, and creative problem-solving through hands-on building challenges.
So far, the class has been learning how to build basic mechanisms and use block-based coding to bring their creations to life. This exciting project is just beginning, and we can’t wait to see what the students come up with next!

Pancake Tuesday – A Tasty Tradition
On Pancake Tuesday, the whole school enjoyed a delicious treat. Each student received a freshly made pancake, with a selection of toppings to choose from. It was a delightful way to mark the day and a chance to share some smiles over syrup.

Say Yes to Language-Bonjour from Clarisse – French Lessons Continue!
Our French tutor Clarisse has been continuing her engaging lessons with the Senior Room. This term, students have been learning:
  • Numbers and shapes
  • Colours and classroom objects
  • Geography of France and key landmarks
Through songs, games, and interactive activities, students are building their vocabulary and confidence in a new language—and loving every minute of it!

Aistear Adventures with Ms. Hogan
This month, Junior and Senior Infants have been having fun every Friday with Mrs. Hogan during Aistear. This month’s theme has been Life on the Farm. Through imaginative role-play, problem-solving tasks, creative drama, and free play, the children have been learning about animals, farming, and rural life in a hands-on and meaningful way.
Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you to all our wonderful families for your ongoing support!

February Blog Post:
Hello everyone, and welcome to our February blog post! February may be a short month, but it is certainly a busy and meaningful time in our school calendar. Below you’ll find highlights of what’s been going on and what’s coming up here at [School Name].

St. Brigid’s Day & Catholic Schools Week
We kicked off the month by celebrating St. Brigid’s Day on February 1st. It was wonderful to see the creativity of our pupils as they learned about the life and traditions associated with St. Brigid.
This special day also coincided with Catholic Schools Week, a time to reflect on the ethos of our school and the importance of kindness, compassion, and community. Each class engaged in daily reflections and activities that showcased how we live out these values in our everyday school life.

Communion Preparations
February is a significant time for our pupils who will be receiving Holy Communion later in the spring. They have been busy with sacramental preparation, learning about the importance of these steps in their faith journey. Thank you to all the teachers, parents, and our parish community members who are supporting the children so patiently in their preparations. Your guidance and encouragement are truly invaluable.

GAA Training with Gary
We continued our GAA training sessions throughout the month, with Gary guiding our pupils through football drills and fun games in the school yard. It’s been wonderful to see the children grow in skill, teamwork, and confidence. Each session brings plenty of laughter and a healthy dose of competitive spirit!

Grandparents’ Day
One of the most heart-warming events this month was our Grandparents’ Day. We invited grandparents to join us up in the hall, and they were greeted with tea, buns, sandwiches, and other treats generously provided by parents. class Our guests loved hearing stories from the children, and the pupils gained an even greater appreciation for their grandparents’ wisdom and experiences. A huge thank you to everyone who made this event such a success!

Valentine’s Day Music & Drama Performance
In line with our annual music lessons and to celebrate Valentine’s Day, the children put on a fantastic music and drama performance led by our music teacher, Gillian. On the day of the midterm holidays, families were treated to:
  • A drama production titled “Cupid’s Heartfelt Tale: The Origins of Valentine’s Day.”
  • Wonderful songs and ukulele performances by our talented pupils.
  • A few funny jokes from some of our boys that had everyone in stitches!
It was a lovely way to round off the term before everyone headed off for a well-deserved break.

“Say Yes to Languages” Workshops
We’re thrilled to have started our “Say Yes to Languages” workshops with our French tutor on Fridays. The children are thoroughly enjoying picking up new words and phrases each week. We even have a fun phrase they’ve been practising:
« C’est la vie ! »
(“That’s life!”)
We look forward to seeing their language skills continue to grow.
Senior Room: “Finding Bear” & Black History Month
In the Senior Room, pupils have been busy finishing their class novel, “Finding Bear,” engaging in thoughtful discussions about the characters and story. Alongside this, they have also been learning about Black History Month, exploring the contributions and achievements of influential figures through readings, videos, and classroom conversations. We’re proud of how engaged and empathetic our pupils are during these lessons.

Junior Room: “Creepy Crawlies” and “There once was an old lady…”
In the junior room,  we were so excited for Grandparent’s day and all  conducted interviews with our Granny’s and Grandads! We painted beautiful love hearts for our valentines performance and sang our hearts out Lion King Style! We learned all about Creepy Crawlies this month, both in English and As Gaeilge. Finally, we listened to the story of the old lady who swallowed a fly and have decorated our classroom door in preparation for world book week in March!

January 2025

What a crazy start to the New Year!  In January, coming back from the Christmas holidays, a snowstorm hit Ireland which left dangerous road conditions, power outages and no water. Due to these dangerous conditions our school had to close for the week. All the children jumped for joy when we heard the news! A couple weeks later, storm Eowyn hit. There was a red weather warning for all of Ireland, which meant schools had to close on the Friday!

The senior room is reading a book called ‘The House at The Edge of Magic’ by Amy Sparks. It is about a girl called nine who is a pickpocket and is working for gang master called Pockets. One day she pickpocketed a young lady around her age and stole a small house from her bag. She knocks on the little door and her life never be the same

The senior room has been practicing chess with the help of Mr. Looram will be and participating in a chess tournament in Moyle rovers on the 31st of January. The Senior class has also been learning how to play the ukulele with Gillian and will be performing the day of the midterm break.
While Mr. Looram is in the junior room, Mrs. Murphy is taking his place as support teacher. She organized hot chocolate on her first Friday, to get to know us better. We had to bring our own mug to put our hot chocolate in and there was one option of cream or marshmallows or both! We had great fun that day.

This month we started back with Gary our football coach and Gillian our music teacher. This month the Junior class made some lovely Snowman art and they have also been learning about France.

On January 12th the school held a Tractor Run. We used the money raised from the Tractor Run to fund a SPIKE Lego coding and Bee bots for the school.. We are so thankful to everyone for supporting our tractor run. We hope that next month will be just as exciting!

DECEMBER 2024

December was such an exciting month here in Killurney as we got ready for Christmas! There were so many fun things going on, and everyone was in a festive mood.
In both the junior and senior rooms, we learned loads about Christmas traditions. Our mischievous elf, Jingles, came back to visit us again this year, reminding us to be on our best behaviour. In the junior room, we learned all about the robin redbreast and created beautiful Christmas art inspired by it. As a special treat, we made rice krispie buns and used what we had learned about procedural writing to follow the steps perfectly.
In the senior room, we read an amazing story called The Last Bear, which showed us life in the Arctic Circle through the eyes of a young girl April. Inspired by this, we completed projects on the flora and fauna of the Arctic and how animals and plants adapt to such harsh conditions. We also researched the geography and tourism of Svalbard. For STEM this month, we had a really fun home project where we used old storage boxes to create Christmas displays. Everyone came up with such creative ideas and really “thought outside the box” (literally!).
This month in PE, we had a fantastic time working with Kool Schools during a block of gymnastics workshops. We learned how to create cool shapes and try out some creative moves. Gary, our GAA coach, also visited us each week in December, and we were lucky to have mild and dry weather, which meant we could train outdoors without any problems! We continued the work on our Active School flag application and completed the four week active breaks challenge.
As part of the Christmas traditions in Killurney, our amazing Parents Association organized a hamper raffle. It was wonderful to see how kind and generous everyone was and the lucky winners were delighted to go home with some yummy prizes.
On Thursday, December 19th, we also had a “Christmas Jumper Day” to raise money for Laura Lynn Children’s Charity. It felt great to be part of a community that gives back, especially at Christmas time.
To finish off an incredible month, we had a special visit from Santa Claus! Everyone was so excited to see him and receive a small gift all the way from the North Pole. We ended the term on such a happy note and headed off for the holidays full of Christmas cheer.

This November the Junior and Senior classes took part in “Science Fortnight”. We took part in science workshops with Lismore Mobile Scientists. The Junior room did an engineering workshop and the senior room did a forensics workshop in which we did a DNA test and one of the pupils did a saliva swab sample. We held a science fair on 22nd November which a few children from the junior room and all the children from the senior room took part in.
On 7th November the senior room hosted a friendly match against Newtown school which unfortunately we lost but in the end it was only a friendly game. After we had finished, the teachers kindly prepared treats for everyone who had participated. We also got a new football coach this month. We welcomed Gary, to do football lessons with both classes and to help us to play matches against other schools. Both classrooms also started gymnastics lessons in the hall with Niall and Karen from “Kool Skool”.
The junior room had a busy month learning all about space travel and designed and launched their own rockets on the yard. They also started drama workshops with Tara Power as part of the TAP programme.
The senior room also had a few things on. First, they began ukulele lessons with Gillian. Then Mr Looram taught us how to play chess and we learned about each of the pieces on the chess board. We also learnt about the Arctic and read a novel called “The Last Bear”.

This month in Killurney National School we had Maths week from 14th – 18th. For Maths week the senior room were learning chess (it was very confusing) but it was easier as we went along. Everyone enjoyed it.
The junior room carried out a fun Gruffalo STEM project. They tried to make the tallest log house for the snake from cocktail sticks and marshmallows. They then created tally charts to see how many times Gruffalo was mentioned in the story. They also made tally charts on Halloween songs and played board games on Fridays.
On the 16th of October we did Cross Country running in Clonmel. We had lots of fun. Five pupils got medals. We were all very proud and it was a brilliant day for us.
On the 22nd of October we had a match against Killusty. We had great fun but unfortunately we lost the match. In the end it was extremely fun and I’m excited to go up against them again because everybody enjoyed themselves and I’m excited to see if we can beat them next time.
The senior room did a fun STEM challenge where we had to make a scarecrow for our last day before midterm break and when the time came we all brought them in and even the parents got competitive!  It  was very fun and I hope we will be able to do something similar again.

This year we welcomed four new junior infants called Milly, Aine, Rory and Adam.

The Junior room started the year with two new art projects, Picasso self-portraits and splatter painting trees which they made using toothbrushes. They also went on a bear hunt in their classroom (no bears were harmed in the hunt). The first and second class wrote a digital book in Irish which they called “An Timpiste”. They made their digital book using the book creator app.

The senior room started two art projects, Cats and Timelines. The senior room has already finished two novels called “Shadow” and “Escape from Shangri-La”. “Escape from Shangri-La” is about a girl and her long-lost grandfather who appears one day. He comes looking for his son that he hasn’t seen for years. The grandfather loses his memory, and the girl has to try and help him gain his memory back. “Shadow” is about a boy that finds a dog and calls it Shadow because it follows him everywhere like a shadow. The Taliban has taken over his country, so the boy and his mother flee the country to England. Both books were good.

The school has also started back with Gillian doing Music lessons every Wednesday.

Thursday the 26th of September was SNA Appreciation Day. So, we surprised our SNA Miss Holohan by spelling out “Thank you Miss Holohan” in paper letters and gifting her a bouquet of flowers.

On Thursday the 30th of September eleven students took part in a cross-country race in Carrick. Well done to all the participants!

On 11th June we held a school “Wellbeing Festival” as part of our Amber flag initiative. After swimming lessons, we returned to school for a fun filled afternoon of wellness activities organised by our senior room wellbeing committee. We had a pilates class from a local instructor. One of our parents who is a qualified reiki master, came in to give a demonstration. We also had a chill out zone where the pupils could sit and relax with cushions and blankets brought in from home and enjoy some home baked treats. We were delighted then, to receive word the following day that we had been awarded the Amber Flag for wellbeing promotion in our school. Well done to Ms Hogan and the Senior room for all the hard work that went into this initiative over the course of the year!
On 12th June, we headed to the SETU Arena in Waterford for our school tour. It was an action packed day and pupils got to take part in a wide variety of activities including foot golf and frisbee golf, outdoor games, archery, laser tag and bouncy castles.
On 14th June the senior room hosted Killusty National School for a friendly football match.
On Tuesday 18th June we held our annual school sports day.  Children enjoyed taking part in running races in the morning followed by novelty races such as the sack, race, egg and spoon and three legged race when we returned from swimming lessons. Everyone had great fun cheering on their team members across the different class groups. We were also delighted to welcome back some of last year`s 6th class pupils who popped in to say hello and help out on the day.  After all the races were finished, we had a visit from the ice-cream van and spent some time chilling on the picnic benches devouring 99`s before tidying up and getting ready to head home.
On Wednesday 19th June, we had our four new junior infants in for their induction morning. They had a great morning playing with all the Aistear toys, enjoying story time and exploring the playground.

Small school blitz

Killurney blitz

On Wednesday 1st of May I was full of excitement because I remembered we were going to a small schools blitz in Dr. Morris Park, Thurles. We had to be in school by 9:10 at the latest because we were leaving at 9:30. Once we got there, they lined us up in our class groups and separated us for hurling and football based on our preferred sport. They mixed us up with pupils from other schools to get to know each other. We played 4 matches with 10 minutes a side. My group won 3 and lost 1. It was very enjoyable. The infants played on the astro turf to practice their skills and kicking. When everything was over, we went back to where we left our bags to have lunch. After lunch we walked over to Semple Stadium. Firstly, when we went in, they gave us a tour of the dressing rooms. It was interesting seeing where all the players sat to get ready for a match. We then got to run out the tunnel and got our photo taken at that point. Then we ran up the pitch and went to the stand where the winning teams of finals lift the cups after the game. We came back to school and did Maths for the last while before going home. My favourite part of the day was when we ran out of the tunnel. That was very exciting! The matches were very fun but I also enjoyed going up to the podium.

Last month in Killurney N.S. we held the production of our play 'Cinderella Rockerfella'. We practised for over two months. With kind help from our music teacher Gillian, we were able to practise every Wednesday and more days closer to the show. We also had a lot of help from teachers, Mrs Carroll and Mrs Hogan.
Running closer to the show we stayed after school with kind help from Mrs Carroll and Mrs Hogan to make our backdrops. Everyone had great fun and put a lot of work into the show.
We practised a lot of songs which was very fun.
Our play was on Thursday the 21st of March, we held two performances on the day of the play, one matinee show at 12:00pm and an evening show at 6:30pm.
We had so much fun and everyone did brilliantly. At the end of the show we even had a confetti popper. I really enjoyed doing the show and felt really happy and proud afterwards.

We have had a very busy term here in Killurney National School full of different initiatives and projects.
We started off in January, by celebrating Catholic  Schools week and Grandparent`s Day. All of the pupils invited their grandparents/ special adult in for a tea/coffee morning in Killurney Hall. Some of the parents and pupils baked delicious treats and children presented their grandparents with cards and drawings. It was a very enjoyable morning.

The boys and girls have been extremely busy lately, preparing for their upcoming school show “Cinderella Rockerfella” which will take place in Killurney hall on 21st March.  Rehearsals and casting began immediately after the Christmas break with Gillian.  All pupils from junior infants right up to 6th class will have a role in the production. Well done especially to Ms Hogan and the senior room pupils who have been staying back after school to create absolutely fabulous backdrops and props.

On Tuesday 13th February, The senior room travelled to Killusty National School for a friendly hurling match. Unfortunately, we were beaten but everyone had a great day.

On Monday 19th February, All senior room pupils took part in an online Internet safety workshop via web cam link with Internet safety expert, Ger Brick. Parents were also given the opportunity to take part in a follow up zoom workshop from home that evening.

On Thursday 7th March, we celebrated World Book Day. Instead of their usual homework this week, pupils carried out projects on their favourite book characters/ author and presented them to their class. Everybody dressed up and there were prizes of Easons books vouchers for creativity and best effort in both  classrooms.

5th and 6th class recently attended a religious retreat in Glencomeragh, followed by their ceremony of light in preparation for their Confirmation. On Tuesday 12th March, both classes celebrated their Confirmation in Kilcash Church with Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan along with Kilcash and Kilsheelan National Schools.

Over the past few weeks, we have been taking part in the Nore Valley Incubation and Hatching Project as part of Science and SPHE. The school received an incubator and 7 eggs to be monitored over a 3 week period. There was great excitement on 6th March as they began hatching . We had four healthy , strong chicks which we had great fun naming. We were sad to see them go back to the farm on 13th March but all pupils received a voucher to go visit them with their families at Nore Valley.

Tractor run 2024

20/2/2024

At the start of this year our parent’s association in Killurney decided to plan a tractor run as a fundraiser for our school. A  lot of work went into the planning and preparation for the day. Signs were made and put up to show to the direction and route the tractors would take. Treats and snacks were kindly made by parents and local people for everyone to enjoy in Cloneen after the run. Everyone was so generous with their donations to our school and the day was a great success. Let us tell you about what we got up to…
That morning, we washed our tractors at home and then we motored up to the school. The roads were very icy, especially on the hill and it was foggy too. From the top of the hill, it was difficult to see the road because of the low fog.
Shortly after, we arrived at the school. We were surprised to see so many vehicles. There were 30 tractors and 3 vintage cars at the event.  When we got inside the school, we registered our tractors. A twenty-euro entry fee was charged for each tractor taking part. We then got a sticker for our tractor that said “Killurney Tractor Run 2024”. Everyone was in great spirits and chatting away before we set off.
While waiting to leave, we saw some incredible tractors, including a Ford 7610, a Massey 7s 180, a Ford 6600, a Massey 7715 and a John Deere 6145 r. It was very exciting driving along the route, people were waving at us and blowing their car horns. The atmosphere was mighty.
The 10 marshals allowed the slower tractors leave first to keep everyone together during the run. We left the school and headed towards Fethard. H.R photography was filming us at various points of the route. In fact, the camera man Harry Ryan is only 13 years old would you believe!  Anna-May Morrissey was the only female driver on the run. She is only 17 years old.
After we arrived in Fethard, we took the “bad road” heading towards Cloneen. We arrived in Cloneen to cheers and applause. We parked up and entered the community hall. There was table after table of food for everyone. We had great craic but then it was time to go home. Our tractor run was a great success. You can watch footage of the tractor run on HR photography on Youtube.

On the day of the tractor run it was very foggy. We washed the tractor early that morning and then went over to the school to begin the tractor run. There were loads of tractors there and I saw lots of my friends. We set off on the roads of around Slievenamon and stopped in Cloneen for tea, buns and biscuits. I got to talk to all of my friends. We continued on back home and overall; it was a great day. I saw loads of different tractors and some were very old. The tractor we were driving is a John Deere, they’re the best.

We have had an extremely busy and festive month here in Killurney, preparing for Christmas. On the 12th of December we held an art exhibition where we showcased all of our art work from the month. We made Christmas baubles, handprint paintings, fairy door decorations, photo snow globes, carol singers, gingerbread house paintings and most importantly our cribs which we made at home with our parents as a STEM challenge. Every pupil in the school also designed a school crest. Mrs Carroll put all of our ideas together and they are going to be used by a local printing company to come up with a new official school crest. All of our ideas and original designs were displayed on the evening. There were plenty of festive treats like mulled punch, chocolate and O’Donnells crisps for our parents on the evening. After our art exhibition, we performed a short carol service. We sang Rocking around the Christmas Tree, Jingle Bell Rock, The Little Drummer Boy, Away in a Manger, We`re walking in the air, Rudolf, Jingle Bells and We wish you a Merry Christmas. We spent a lot of time practicing these in the run up to the evening.  We also performed a surprise performance for Miss Hogan because she was getting married. At the end of our carol singing, we all put on sunglasses, held up red paper hearts and sang Last Christmas I gave you my heart and a Bruno Mars song with choreography. We also gave her flowers and a card from the whole school.
On the 19th we had a surprise visit from Santa where we got a selection box each.
On 21st December, the whole school left Killurney at 7:40am to attend the Panto in Limerick. This year`s show was Sleeping Beauty. It was very funny and we all really enjoyed it.
5th and 6th class Confirmation masses ended last Sunday after the third week.
Our school Christmas hamper raffle took place last week. We raised €513.

In classroom news, both the Senior and the Junior room are doing the theme of An Nollag in Irish this month. The senior room are doing a Japan project and are making kimono art and haiku poetry art which will be hung up in the school. We also did explanation writing on why Christians celebrate Christmas along with traditions about Christmas. The Junior room learned all about Tom Creane and his South Pole Expedition this month. The read the story “Tom Creane`s Rabbit” and write diary entries from Tom on board the Terra Nova. They also wrote Christmas stories in Narrative writing.
We are looking forward to our Christmas holidays and are excited to find out what 2024 holds for us.

Over the past two months we have done a wide range of activities like our cross country race in Clonmel. Despite it being very cold and rainy we did very well with multiple people winning medals and some even coming in first place.
Secondly, we had our football blitz for First, Second and Third class which they really enjoyed. They won two matches and lost one.
Later in the month we finished our tag rugby lessons with Joe which we started doing at the start of the year.
The fifth and the sixth class worked very hard on a debate hosted by the charity concern. We had to convince one of the people working for the charity that all children in Ireland do not have access to a playground locally and although we put a lot of effort into it we lost against the other school.
A lot of people also  brought in shoe boxes for the Team Hope shoe box appeal where you fill a shoebox with toys clothes sweets and hygiene products and Team Hope send it out to children all over the world who need it.
The senior room have been doing a lot of work with S.T.E.M like making wind mills and marble runs out of recyclable materials, our most recent project being building water proof houses.
For science week the junior room did lots of experiments, one being trying to make a DIY thermo for Mrs Carroll`s hot chocolate and another being making musical instruments that you can either strike, pluck, shake or blow into. They also carried out a “Dancing Raisin” experiment and a “Soap and Pepper” experiment to demonstrate the importance of washing your hands properly.
The junior room made menus and did role play of “Sa Bhialann” in Aistear as they explored the theme of “Bia” in  Irish lesson while the senior room are going over verbs and Irish nouns.
The senior room are also doing projects on Japan. The topics are: Culture, animals, food, houses and sports.
On the day of the Hallowe`en break we all played games that the sixth class set up: One where you use a ruler to cut bits off of a pile of flour with a jelly on top and if the jelly falls then you have to stick your head into the flour. We had  two piñatas and also played Snap Apple. If you could manage to catch the apple in your mouth, you got sweets. Everyone also dressed up for Hallowe`en in tonnes of fun costumes for the day.
In late November, our tag rugby couch returned for a visit with the URC rugby trophy which Munster won last season. We had great fun taking photos with the huge cup. Joe also gifted us a big bag of rugby balls that we will be able to use for P.E.
All in all, it has been a very eventful two months and we have had lots of fun.

September 2023

``After a very enjoyable summer break, Killurney N.S. reopened their doors and said hello to two new junior infants in September. All the children in the junior room were very welcoming towards them and helped them get settled in their new classroom. The juniors also appear to be really enjoying the sand pits which are a new edition to the school’s outdoor classroom. There were also changes in the senior as we welcomed the new third class into the senior room as last year`s sixth class are missed by many.
Sports for the pupils in both classrooms commenced straight away. Firstly we started GAA coaching for both the junior room and the senior room which everyone seems to really enjoy. In the spirit of the Rugby World Cup, we also got straight back into tag rugby coaching, organized through Munster Rugby. This includes drills and some fun games. Continuing with our school sports packed month, the senior room participated in the primary school’s cross country running in Thurles. This was a very enjoyable day with Judy O’ Donnell winning gold in the third and fourth class race, Robyn O’ Reilly also taking home gold in the fifth and sixth class race and the fourth class girls winning bronze in the teams category.
On Friday the 29th of September we celebrated “Yellow Day” in memory of the late Mrs. Phil Burke who sadly passed away this summer after a short illness. We organized a school fundraiser and all pupils and teachers dressed in yellow and participated in an hour of reading for fun on Friday afternoon. We managed to raise €453 which will be donated to the CARE Cancer Support Centre in Clonmel in Mrs. Burke's name.  We have fond memories of Mrs. burke coming to the school with her dog Peg each week to read with us.  It was a very popular part of the school week and it made reading very relaxed and easy.
Over the past month the junior room have been covering the Theme of “Myself”.  They learnt about their senses,  made personal timelines which included a photo of themselves as a baby, a toddler and how they are now. They carried out interviews with each other as Ghaeilge and also made Andy Warhol art pieces.  Andy Warhol is famous for his popular culture type art design.
The senior room created marble runs out of fully recyclable materials and all the senior room teams really put a huge effort into this STEM competition. The pupils had two weeks to create these marble runs, and the aim of this competition was to see which teams’ marble could make it down the whole run. There were some funny fails and there were also some total successes. The senior room also made Bahidora art pieces. These pieces are fully made from paper and inspired by nature.
From the start of September, every break and lunch time, the  senior room pupils have taken part in rounders for fun. Everyone looks forward to playing during break times, although some days it gets competitive and the teachers must act as referees! At this stage we have lost almost all the balls on the school premises during our rounders games. The most important thing however, is that everyone has fun participating and is included.
It has been a very action packed and fun filled month and we all look forward to next month’s activities.

After many preparations and tremendous effort from both children, teachers and parents our graduation for our 2nd class to the senior room and of course our sixth class to their secondary school took place on the nineteenth of June 2023.

The ceremony commenced with a few words from Mrs Carroll , followed by the song “ True Colours” performed by the senior class room with sixth class singing the opening as a class.
Next, Fr. Power granted the sixth-class pupils a blessing for their endeavour to secondary school. After that 6th class read their speeches that brought a tear to many eyes as the children included their favourite memories and thanks to the teachers. Ms Hogan said a small poem for the sixth class and then the 3rd class to 6th class sang “You can count on me” by Bruno Mars.2nd class were presented with a gift each and 6th class a card and gift each. Ms Hogan was gifted a Mulligans voucher from all the sixth-class girls. The hall was beautifully decorated and the food afterwards was much appreciated and enjoyed by all present. Although full of emotion, the day was delightful and flew past quickly. Many thanks to all that were involved and contributed. It will be yet another delightful memory for the 6th class going forward in their education.
