The pupils have been taking part in an abundance of extra-curricular activities and initiatives over the past few weeks.
The junior room have been busy building bug hotels after spending the past few weeks learning about the honey bee and bee conservation. They have also been exploring the theme "The Airport" in Aistear.
On 11th June we held a school “Wellbeing Festival” as part of our Amber flag initiative. After swimming lessons, we returned to school for a fun filled afternoon of wellness activities organised by our senior room wellbeing committee. We had a pilates class from a local instructor. One of our parents who is a qualified reiki master, came in to give a demonstration. We also had a chill out zone where the pupils could sit and relax with cushions and blankets brought in from home and enjoy some home baked treats. We were delighted then, to receive word the following day that we had been awarded the Amber Flag for wellbeing promotion in our school. Well done to Ms Hogan and the Senior room for all the hard work that went into this initiative over the course of the year!
On 12th June, we headed to the SETU Arena in Waterford for our school tour. It was an action packed day and pupils got to take part in a wide variety of activities including foot golf and frisbee golf, outdoor games, archery, laser tag and bouncy castles.
On 14th June the senior room hosted Killusty National School for a friendly football match.
On Tuesday 18th June we held our annual school sports day. Children enjoyed taking part in running races in the morning followed by novelty races such as the sack, race, egg and spoon and three legged race when we returned from swimming lessons. Everyone had great fun cheering on their team members across the different class groups. We were also delighted to welcome back some of last year`s 6th class pupils who popped in to say hello and help out on the day. After all the races were finished, we had a visit from the ice-cream van and spent some time chilling on the picnic benches devouring 99`s before tidying up and getting ready to head home.
On Wednesday 19th June, we had our four new junior infants in for their induction morning. They had a great morning playing with all the Aistear toys, enjoying story time and exploring the playground.
On Thursday 20th June, we had a visit from the local Scouts group team leader who spent the afternoon facilitating outdoor and adventure activities with all pupils in the school. They had great fun pitching tents, learning how to light fires, singing campfire songs and practicing archery skills.
We look forward now, to a fun filled last few days of the school year next week including our 6th class graduation on Monday and Splash Day next Tuesday.
