October was a wonderfully busy month filled with books, sports, creativity, and plenty of spooky fun!
📚 Book Club in Killurney Hall
The Senior Room kicked off the month with a special book club event in Killurney Hall. Children met with book experts who chatted with them about their favourite genres and helped guide them toward books that suited their interests and age level. Each child received their very own “book prescription” to take home—perfect for cosy autumn reading!

🏃‍🏃‍ Cross Country Adventures

The Senior Room were also on the move this month, taking part in two more cross country races—one in Clonmel and another in Comeragh College, Cahir. What fantastic days out! Every child participated brilliantly, showing great resilience and sportsmanship. We even returned with some medals thanks to a few of our star athletes! Well done to everyone involved.

🔮 Folklore, Hedgewitches & Halloween Art

Spooky season arrived in style! The Senior Room explored Irish folklore and began reading The Hedgewitch, a mystical and magical story that everyone is excited to continue. To add to the eerie atmosphere, the children created ghostly Halloween art portraits, filling our hallways with spooky ghost masterpieces.

🎄 Christmas Show Preparations Begin!
One of the most exciting days this month was receiving the parts for our Christmas show! There was huge excitement throughout the classrooms as scripts and parts were handed out. There may be a lot of work ahead, but spirits are high and rehearsals have begun!

🎃 Halloween Costumes & Creative STEM
On the day of the holidays, the children arrived in an array of fantastic Halloween costumes—each one more spooky and imaginative than the last!

The Senior Room also wowed us with their Halloween STEM homework, creating homemade board games with incredible creativity and design. We spent a wonderful morning playing the games together.

👶 Junior Room News!
📖 Storytime & Upcoming Readathon
The Junior Room loved reading Anna Liza and the Happy Practice this month, sharing lots of smiles and feel-good discussions. Weare now gearing up and getting excited for the MS Readathon in November, where we know they’ll shine as super readers!

🔧 STEM & SESE Adventures

The Junior Room also enjoyed some hands-on Halloween STEM, building catapults and putting their engineering skills to the test.

In SESE, the children researched future careers, sharing wonderful ideas about what they might like to be when they grow up—from vets to astronauts and everything in between!

 A Fantastic October in Killurney!

From reading to running, spooky art to science, we had a magical and meaningful month. A huge well done to all our students for their enthusiasm, effort, and creativity.

We are rested, recharged, and ready for a wonderful November ahead!

September 2025

September was a busy and fun-filled month here at school! After a lovely summer break, the
children returned full of energy and ready to learn.
We were delighted to welcome our four new Junior Infants, who have settled so well into
school life already. We also welcomed Ms. Lawrence, who has joined us as SET until
Christmas, covering for Mrs. Carroll.
Sixth Class had some very special visits from local secondary schools, who spoke to the
children about their future options. The talks gave us a great insight into the variety of lessons
and activities on offer, and one of the highlight was definitely meeting Loretto’s therapy dog,
Gino — he was a huge hit with everyone!
This month also saw the beginning of our involvement with Creative Clusters Ireland
through our Lego STEM initiative. Mrs. Hogan, who is coordinating the project alongside
other schools in the area, has introduced the children to the contents of the Lego Spike Prime
kits. Over the coming weeks, we will be exploring them in more depth and discovering how
they can be used for exciting STEM learning.
Children from 1st–6th Class took part in cross-country running competitions in both Thurles
and Carrick-on-Suir. The turnout was fantastic, and all the children trained brilliantly with
Mr. Looram in preparation, we even came home with some medals. A huge thank you to all
the parents who supported us by helping with transport to and from the events — your help is
invaluable.
The Junior Room have been busy too! From taking their new school photos for the classroom
hot-air balloon display, to reading Care of Henry, and even making some delicious Rice
Krispie buns with Mrs. Holohan on Friday. It has been a month full of fun and creativity.
In the Senior Room, the children have been doing thematic work on World War I, inspired by
Michael Morpurgo’s Eagle in the Snow. They have really enjoyed exploring the story and
gaining a deeper understanding of the historical events through the characters in the book.
We’ve had a wonderful start to the school year, and September has certainly been full of
learning, creativity, and fun. Don’t forget to check back in October for more exciting
updates!
March 2025
March Magic at Killurney:
What a wonderfully busy and creative few weeks we've had here at school! Our classrooms have been buzzing with excitement, learning, and laughter as we celebrated special events and launched new projects across all classes. Here’s a round-up of all the amazing things that have taken place!

World Book Week – A Celebration of Reading and Imagination
World Book Week was a true highlight this term! The whole school took part in a range of fun and literacy-rich activities designed to inspire a love of reading.
  • Book Swap: Students were invited to bring in gently used books from home and trade them with their classmates. It was heart-warming to see children choosing their “new” reads and talking animatedly about their favourite characters and stories.
  • Literary Quiz: Teams from each room faced off in a fun and challenging book quiz, testing their knowledge of authors, classic tales, and even book-themed riddles.
  • Where’s Wally Scavenger Hunt: Our classrooms and school playground transformed into a whimsical world of search and discovery, as students hunted high and low for hidden Wallys throughout the school!
  • Illustration Station: Budding artists had the chance to illustrate characters from their favourite books or design new book covers.
  • Dress-Up Day: The grand finale of the week saw students and staff arriving in an incredible array of costumes—from wizards and witches to talking animals and superheroes. The creativity and effort put into each outfit was fantastic!

Mural & Media: Senior Room Gets Creative for Irish Aid
Our Senior Room students took on a meaningful project for the Irish Aid Our World Competition, combining artistic talent with global awareness. A massive thank you to Mrs. Meagher who put in so much work and effort to help design, direct and assist the students with their outdoor mural. We are so lucky to have her guidance and support.
  • Mural Creation: With teamwork and a strong message in mind, students designed and painted a stunning mural focused on the theme of global sustainability. Their work reflects the importance of protecting our planet and helping communities around the world.
  • Green Screen Video Production: As part of this initiative, the class also created a video using green screen technology. They acted, narrated, and edited scenes that brought their message to life—highlighting sustainable development goals in a format that was both educational and visually exciting.

Seachtain na Gaeilge – Let’s Celebrate Irish Culture!
In honour of Seachtain na Gaeilge, students across the school embraced the Irish language and traditions with enthusiasm.
  • Irish Dancing: A special Irish dancing session got everyone moving to traditional tunes! The joy on students’ faces as they skipped and stepped to the rhythm was a beautiful reminder of the richness of our heritage.
  • Hokai Pokai as Gaeilge: The Junior Room also had great fun learning and performing “Hokai Pokai” in Irish—there were giggles all around as they danced along and practised their new vocabulary.
  • Shamrock Art: To get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit, both the Junior and Senior Rooms created beautiful shamrock-themed art. The green displays brought a lovely festive touch to the school!

First Penance for First & Second Class
A special milestone was reached by our younger students as First and Second Class made their First Penance in the church in Kilsheelan. The ceremony was a reflective and important step in their faith journey, and we’re very proud of how respectfully and thoughtfully each child participated.

Lego Spike Project Launch
The Senior Room also dove into the world of STEM as they began work with our new Lego Spike Kits! These kits allow students to explore coding, engineering, and creative problem-solving through hands-on building challenges.
So far, the class has been learning how to build basic mechanisms and use block-based coding to bring their creations to life. This exciting project is just beginning, and we can’t wait to see what the students come up with next!

Pancake Tuesday – A Tasty Tradition
On Pancake Tuesday, the whole school enjoyed a delicious treat. Each student received a freshly made pancake, with a selection of toppings to choose from. It was a delightful way to mark the day and a chance to share some smiles over syrup.

Say Yes to Language-Bonjour from Clarisse – French Lessons Continue!
Our French tutor Clarisse has been continuing her engaging lessons with the Senior Room. This term, students have been learning:
  • Numbers and shapes
  • Colours and classroom objects
  • Geography of France and key landmarks
Through songs, games, and interactive activities, students are building their vocabulary and confidence in a new language—and loving every minute of it!

Aistear Adventures with Ms. Hogan
This month, Junior and Senior Infants have been having fun every Friday with Mrs. Hogan during Aistear. This month’s theme has been Life on the Farm. Through imaginative role-play, problem-solving tasks, creative drama, and free play, the children have been learning about animals, farming, and rural life in a hands-on and meaningful way.
Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you to all our wonderful families for your ongoing support!
